We're looking at Humana to see how they did this morning. Humana's shares are seeing a rebound this morning, all thanks to good news regarding better-than-expected valuations. It is a metric that Wall Street pays close attention to.
Medicare and Medicaid have released their 2027 rankings. It has been a significant shift for the health insurance company. You can see that reflected in the performance of stocks, which are now up by more than 15%, adding to the gains we have seen so far this year.
As a result, they now have a four-star rating instead in many of their plans. The company says that 95% of Medicare Advantage subscribers are now enrolled in plans rated four stars or higher.
It's a big win for Humana, which saw its ratings plummet two years ago. And now again this year, the company has been one of the biggest winners.
This could translate into billions of dollars in additional revenue across the entire sector. Therefore, Medicare Advantage's total quality rewards this year are expected to exceed 13 billion.
Therefore, better valuations can boost Humana's future revenue and profitability.
As for Wall Street's response, Baird upgraded Humana's rating accordingly. They upgraded its rating from "neutral" to "outstanding performance". This comes directly after the government announced these assessments.
They have raised their price target to $596. This is up from $390, an increase of more than 50% over what they had previously expected.
They have greater confidence in Humana's ability to generate more than $35 in adjusted earnings per share by 2028. Three key drivers are: Medicare Advantage's star ratings, pricing and benefit decisions they believe will protect profitability, and expectations of slower Medicare Advantage cost growth nationwide.
So, the big picture here is that Humana is on the rise as a result. And new record levels within 52 weeks.
