$UAL

UAL adjusted EPS missed expectations; Q4 and full-year earnings guidance came in below analysts' forecasts, a sharp deceleration, with higher fuel prices the main pressure point. Bookings and premium, basic-economy, loyalty and cargo revenue were strong, but fuel is hurting profit and shares are down.

Let's check out United Airlines. Yeah, we knew coming into today the question around United Airlines would be what is the impact of fuel? And that is certainly a headwind for United Airlines.

Now, they did have strong bookings, but they missed expectations on earnings. Profit took a hit uh in terms of adjusted earnings per share. They ca it came in at 254. The street was looking for 260. So, that was weaker than expected.

Revenue coming in at a touch above 17.8 billion. Close to hitting the mark on revenue. Street was looking for 17.91 and some would were saying that the number was going to be around what we saw.

So some would call that in line with expectations

in terms of the outlook from here. Uh United expecting fourth quarter adjusted earnings of 50 cents to a buck 50 a share. That's below what analysts were expecting. Even at the high end full year adjusted earnings would reach only 722 a share.

Think about July's forecast. That was between 9 to 11 bucks. So that is a sharp deceleration from what expectations were before.

What's the big pressure point? Of course, it is fuel oil prices. They're expecting to pay 480 a gallon for fuel in the fourth quarter. That's up from 390 in the third quarter to more than 20% increase there.

Uh so they have been uh having higher fairs and travelers keep booking no matter what. You've got strength across the business in terms of how travelers are booking. Premium revenue was up 17%.

Basic economy revenue was also up double digits, up 16%, loyalty revenue up 17%, cargo revenue up 23%. So that's strong demand there whether we're talking about the economy uh section of the plane or premium revenue here. Uh so there's breath when it comes to growth.

However, fuel prices are a big pain point for United and others. So shares are down.
